Australia is an easy study destination choice for international students. Many international students choose to study English in Australia and then go on to a vocational education Certificate or Diploma course within the Tertiary and Further Education (TAFE) system, of which the Gordon Institute of TAFE is a part.

The Gordon Institute of TAFE has delivered quality education and training to international students since the 1930s. With an annual enrolment of 22 000 students across its seven teaching schools, the Gordon has over 200 Australian government accredited courses. Located in Geelong on the southwest coast of the state of Victoria, the Gordon is the first choice in Australian education for many international students.

Gordon International, the Institute's dedicated international education office, has extensive experience working with overseas students. Providing a personalised service recognised for its excellence, Gordon International welcomes an increasing number of international students who choose to study in Australia's most vibrant regional city.

The Gordon's qualified teaching staff have substantial experience in industry and in business, and many take part in the Airport Welcome and Homestay Program for international students.

International students have enrolled in a vast array of courses since first coming to the Gordon, with many studying under the 'Columbo Plan', a prestigious scholarship program that brought students from Asian countries to study in Australia. The program continued until the 1980s with numerous Colombo Plan scholars distinguishing themselves in academia, business and government in their home countries.

With an approximate 12,000 international alumni, the Gordon continues to attract overseas students in its highly regarded English language programs, and in its Certificate, Diploma and specialist courses.

Orientation Program
A free orientation program is conducted before University classes begin and is compulsory for all newly arriving international students. The program includes an introduction to the University, its services and facilities as well as an introduction to Australian culture, society and life. Students are also introduced to the academic culture and rules of the University that are necessary for successful study.

The orientation program also involves social activities, which will help you to meet other students and familiarise yourself with the university and surrounds.

Cultural and Welfare Support
Students receive continuing cultural and welfare support throughout their stay in the University. Cultural activities are arranged which students can participate in and contribute to. Students also receive advice and assistance from experienced and qualified staff in relation to financial and personal welfare matters, as well as visa, health insurance and general administrative matters.

Social Activities Program
An ongoing social activities program runs throughout each semester and provides opportunities for students to enjoy a range of activities outside study. We have many activities available including monthly bus trips to Melbourne's famous Victoria Market, weekly Pizza and Film Nights, day trips to the Great Ocean Road and Phillip Island and a 3 day stay in the Grampians National Park.
