About the University of Canberra
The University of Canberra started its life as the Canberra College of
Advanced Education (CCAE) in 1967 and became a fully-fledged university
in 1990, so we're relatively young as far as universities go. We've
taken the strengths of our history as the CCAE with its focus on
high-quality teaching, innovation and vocational relevance and evolved
over time to become a vibrant, forward-looking university.
The
main campus, located in the suburb of Bruce about 10 minutes from the
city centre, is set on almost 120 hectares of picturesque bushland.
Being a single-campus university means that everything is available in
the one location, with easy access to the full range of facilities and
services. Our size means we can be truly student-centred, with smaller
classes and individual attention. The campus is easy to get around and
there is a strong sense of community amongst students and staff, with
our students saying that they are not just another number in the
system, people know each other by name.
About Canberra
Canberra is well geared to university life, offering all the perks of a
big city in a small, safe, multicultural environment. It is easy to get
around, with living costs more affordable than the larger cities, and
is home to some of the country’s most prestigious monuments and
national institutions, great cultural, sporting and recreational
facilities. In addition to its lively social and nightlife, Canberra’s
unique bush setting and wide open spaces promote an active, outdoors
focused lifestyle. Walking, hiking and mountain biking are popular and
its beautiful lakes are ideal for the popular sports of sailing, rowing
and triathlons.
What is an International Student?
In brief, an international student holds a student or temporary resident visa within or outside Australia and
• is not an Australian citizen or permanent resident
• is not a New Zealand citizen
Full-time Study
If you hold a student visa in Australia, you are required to study
full-time throughout the length of your course. Students are not
permitted to study part-time unless they are already in Australia on a
spouses' study visa, or on a diplomatic or dependent temporary resident
visa. It is possible to have a part-time study load in the final
semester of your study depending on the number of subjects to be
completed.
Your Study Program
International
students are subject to the same rules, teaching methods and criteria
of assessment as other students enrolled in the course. You will be
liable for exclusion for unsatisfactory progress under the same
criteria applied to other students taking the course. |
On Campus accommodation
The Student Residences of the University of Canberra or "Ressies" as
they are affectionately known. are home to over 1,000 young people from
Australia and abroad, you will find that approximately 60% of our
residents are female and about 40% of our population come from overseas.
On Ressies you are treated as an adult and enjoy the rights and
responsibilities that adulthood brings. We are a community comprised of
independent young people, busily working toward their academic and
personal goals and discovering more about themselves and the world
around them.
Off Campus accommodation
Where you choose to live will obviously have a significant impact on
your lifestyle, budget, studies and health. It is therefore important
to consider all aspects of the accommodation you are considering
including potential drawbacks before deciding to ensure you will be
comfortable with your decision.
